Shawdeh Desk:
Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Monday went out on a demonstration in Dhaka demanding release of the imprisoned party chairperson Khaleda Zia when the country was celebrating the Eid-ul-Azha.
The party and its front organisations brought out a procession from the party’s central office at Naya Paltan in Dhaka and held a rally at the same place after parading the adjacent roads in the afternoon.
Addressing the rally, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that the government, elected through a farcical election, was misbehaving with the four-time prime minister.
‘The party chairperson cannot enjoy the Eid as she was ill and was not given chance of taking treatment at any specialised hospital according to her desire,’ he said.
He also alleged that Khaleda was kept confined in prison illegally and unjustly and demanded immediate and unconditional release of the party chairperson.
BNP central committee member Aminul Islam, Tanti Dal convener Abul Kalam Azad and Dhaka South City joint secretary Mojibur Rahman, among others, were present at the rally.
